Anambra CP Launches Checkpoint Monitoring to Curb Extortion

The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, has launched a new monitoring mechanism to supervise police checkpoints and patrol teams across the state. This initiative, announced in a press statement by the command's spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, follows feedback from Anambra Security Stakeholders’ Interactive Sessions.

The mechanism aims to enhance effective policing, accountability, and professionalism while eliminating extortion and harassment by police personnel. Under this strategy, the Command’s Operational Control Rooms will closely monitor patrol formations, with Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and Tactical Team Commanders held accountable for their personnel's actions.

CP Ama emphasized that no officer would be allowed to exploit the public and directed strict compliance with the new directive. He warned that any officer found engaging in misconduct would face disciplinary measures.

The command encourages the public to report incidents of police abuse through various communication channels, including a dedicated WhatsApp number.
