Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (AnSIEC) has set August 29, 2026, as the date for local government chairmanship and councillorship elections. The commission's chairperson, Mrs.

Genevieve Osakwe, cited legal provisions empowering AnSIEC to issue the election notice. The election timetable includes activities starting from November 28, 2025, such as the collection of nomination forms by political parties.

This announcement follows the last local government election conducted by AnSIEC in September 2024, aiming to ensure a transparent and timely electoral process in Anambra State.
