FCT IRS Aims for Global Tax Standards, Says Ango

Michael Ango, the Executive Chairman of the Federal Capital Territory Internal Revenue Service (FCT IRS), stated that the agency is working towards aligning its services with global tax standards. This announcement was made during a stakeholder engagement forum in Abuja.

Ango noted that the FCT IRS is a statutory member of the Joint Revenue Board, which aims to enhance access to the national tax system and leverage existing legal frameworks and digital infrastructure. He emphasized the importance of fostering genuine partnerships with stakeholders to achieve the vision for the FCT.

Ango highlighted that economic growth is fundamentally driven by tax contributions from citizens and businesses. He also praised the FCT Minister of Infrastructure Development for improving security and infrastructure over the past two years, which he described as unprecedented.

Ango reiterated that voluntary compliance remains a priority for the FCT IRS, with enforcement being a last resort. Zacch Adedeji, the Executive Chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service, described the integration of technology into the revenue system as a critical step for tax authorities at the sub-national level.
