Mob Mistakes Police Officers for Kidnappers in Ogun

On Monday, an incident occurred in Simawa, Sagamu Local Government Area, where an angry mob detained police officers who were mistakenly believed to be kidnappers. The Ogun State Police Command, through spokesperson DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, clarified that the individuals involved were serving officers attached to the Police Mobile Force Squadron in Lagos State.

Upon receiving reports of the incident, police operations were immediately mobilized to the scene, where the officers were rescued from the agitated crowd and taken into protective custody for proper identification and investigation. Preliminary investigations revealed that the officers had inadvertently lost their way while returning to their duty post in Sagamu, leading to the public's mistaken suspicion of kidnapping.

The command confirmed the officers' identities through valid police identification cards and uniforms. Babaseyi urged the public to exercise caution and avoid mob actions, emphasizing the importance of cooperation between the public and law enforcement agencies to ensure safety and prevent misinformation.
