Police Officers Mistaken for Kidnappers in Ogun State

On a recent Monday, police officers in Simawa, Sagamu Local Government Area, Ogun State, were mistaken for kidnappers by residents, resulting in a mob attack. The Ogun State Police Command received distress reports and quickly deployed officers to the scene to rescue their colleagues from the agitated crowd.

DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Police, confirmed that the individuals involved were not kidnappers but officers serving in the police mobile force squadron. Preliminary investigations verified their identities through valid police identification cards.

The incident was fueled by circulating video images on social media, which misled the public into believing the officers were involved in kidnapping activities. The Ogun State Police Command commended the residents for their vigilance but cautioned against mob actions and emphasized the importance of proper verification before taking action against suspected criminals.
