Kelechi Anosike Launches Abia Champions League for Youth

The Kelechi Anosike Foundation launched the Abia Champions League on Sunday at Williams Memorial Secondary School in Afugiri Ohuhu, Umuahia North Local Government Area. Sponsored by Dr Kelechi Anosike, the PDP governorship candidate for Abia State in the 2027 election, the league aims to engage youths and address unemployment through sports.

The opening match between Umuahia North and Umuahia South ended in a 1-1 draw. Anosike stated that the league is designed to discover new talents across the state and is structured into four groups representing the 17 local government areas.

He expressed a vision to establish a Sports and Football Academy in Abia if elected governor, which would provide training, mentorship, and exposure for young athletes. Anosike emphasized that youth engagement through sports would help reduce restiveness and position Abia as a sports development hub in the South-East.

The tournament is expected to run for several weeks, culminating in a grand finale to crown one champion for Abia State.
