Ansaru Terrorism Trial Stalled as DSS Denies Lawyer Access in Nigeria

The trial of two alleged senior members of the Ansaru terrorist group, Mahmud Usman Abubakar and Abba, linked to Al Qaeda, was halted in a Federal High Court in Abuja after the Department of State Services (DSS) denied their defense lawyer access to them. The defense lawyer, Bala Dakum, informed the court of the denial, leading to the case not proceeding.

Usman had pleaded guilty to some charges, while Abba pleaded not guilty. The DSS cited ongoing facility upgrades for the restricted access.

The judge adjourned the case until March 16 to allow proper access to the defendants.
