Yobe APC Chairman Retracts Controversial Marriage Remarks

Alhaji Muhammad Gadaka, the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Yobe State, has withdrawn a controversial statement made during a political rally in Nangere, where he suggested that married women should leave their husbands if they were prevented from voting for the APC in the 2027 general elections. Gadaka had also offered to pay the bride price for any woman who left her marriage due to political differences.

Following public backlash and criticism from residents and Islamic scholars, he issued an apology, stating that his comments were intended as a joke and did not reflect his views on marriage. In a video shared by Mamman Mohammed, the Director-General of Press and Media Affairs to Governor Mai Mala Buni, Gadaka clarified that his remarks were misconstrued and rooted in cultural teasing practices.

He formally withdrew his statement and apologized to the public, emphasizing that he did not intend to promote divorce among married couples.
