NPA's Dantsoho Reports 7,000 Trucks on Apapa Road

Dr Abubakar Dantsoho, the Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), revealed that the Apapa access road, which is intended for 2,400 trucks daily, is currently handling over 7,000 trucks. Speaking at the African Ports Conference in Casablanca, Morocco, he noted that this congestion leads to increased delays and undermines trade reliability.
Dantsoho highlighted the importance of coordinated reforms in port infrastructure, transport corridors, and digital systems. He mentioned the implementation of the Eto electronic truck call-up system and the National Single Window, which have begun to alleviate corridor gridlock.
He also pointed out that Nigeria's cargo throughput increased by 24.8 percent to 129.3 million metric tonnes in 2025. Dantsoho stated that while Nigeria's port transformation is ongoing, building robust digital infrastructure is essential before deploying AI in operations.
He stressed the interconnectedness of African ports and the need for collective efforts to address cybersecurity threats and operational inefficiencies.
