Lagos Government Tackles Traffic Congestion in Apapa

The Lagos state government has convened a high-level stakeholders’ meeting to address the resurgence of traffic congestion along the Apapa port corridors, Lekki-Epe axis, and Lekki Free Trade Zone area. The meeting, chaired by Mr Olawale Musa, Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation, included key stakeholders who examined the causes of the worsening gridlock and discussed sustainable measures to restore free movement.

Musa emphasized the government's commitment to enforcing traffic regulations, particularly against the indiscriminate parking of articulated trucks. Stakeholders identified factors contributing to congestion, such as unauthorized truck movements and operational challenges with the Epe Electronic Call-Up System.

They called for an upgrade of the system at Apapa ports to enhance coordination. The meeting concluded with a resolution to address the identified challenges and improve traffic management, with participants including Mr Olalekan Bakare-Oki from LASTMA and representatives from various maritime organizations.
