APM Terminals Apapa Targets 60% Rail Evacuation by 2026

APM Terminals Apapa has introduced a logistics strategy aimed at addressing bottlenecks in Nigeria's export trade, with a target to evacuate 60% of export containers by rail and initiate 24-hour barge operations by the fourth quarter of 2026. This initiative was announced during the third edition of the APM Terminals Apapa Exporters Forum, themed “Exports – Voice of Customers Forum.” The terminal's head of Commercial, Kayode Olufemi-Daniel, emphasized the importance of collaborating with stakeholders to identify and resolve challenges in the export process.

A significant aspect of the strategy includes expanding barge operations through a dedicated Finger Jetty, which will enhance barge-handling capacity. Key client manager, Adesoji Olaniyan, noted that rail evacuation arrangements have been established at two locations, with each location currently facilitating about three weekly rail calls.

The terminal aims to improve cargo visibility and streamline operations by enhancing communication with shipping lines, exporters, importers, and regulatory agencies.
