Apapa Traffic Congestion: NPA Launches Task Force

The Apapa area in Lagos is experiencing significant traffic congestion and extortion issues, severely impacting access to Nigeria's major ports, particularly the Tincan and Apapa ports. The situation has led to daily gridlock, with truck and tanker drivers contributing to the chaos by parking indiscriminately.

This has resulted in increased costs for goods and difficulties in transporting petroleum products across the country. In response to these challenges, the Nigerian Port Authority (NPA) launched a multi-agency task force to tackle the traffic congestion along the port access roads.

This initiative follows a meeting involving stakeholders, including NPA Managing Director Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, security agencies, and freight forwarders, to coordinate measures aimed at eliminating operational bottlenecks.

The task force seeks to address illegal extortion points and implement long-term solutions to restore seamless cargo movement, which is critical for the commercial viability of the Apapa area.
