Nwoye Named Consensus Candidate for APC Deputy Chairman

Dr. Ben Nwoye has been named the consensus candidate for the deputy national chairman position of the All Progressives Congress (APC) during the party's convention scheduled to be held in Abuja.

Nwoye, a former chairman of the APC Caretaker Committee in Enugu State, emerged as the frontrunner for the position after consultations that were reportedly guided by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Sources from the party's national secretariat, who requested anonymity, indicated that the consensus arrangement has already received presidential backing.

The decision to zone the deputy national chairman position to the South has empowered governors to determine candidates from their states. Nwoye's candidacy has garnered broad acceptance within the party ranks, particularly from Enugu State Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, who expressed strong support for Nwoye's nomination.

The process has reportedly neutralized external pressures that could influence the candidacy, consolidating support within the state's leadership.
