Benue Deputy Governor Faces Criticism Over Bread Distribution

The Benue State Government, led by Governor Hyacinth Alia, has faced backlash following an event where Deputy Governor Sam Ode distributed branded "Alia Bread," bottles of Action Bitters, and cash to residents in Igumale. This distribution occurred during Ode's visit to the Idoma community and has sparked debate regarding the government's priorities amidst rising food prices and inflation affecting many Nigerians.

Critics argue that while such gestures may provide temporary relief, they do not address the broader socio-economic issues facing residents. Ode defended the distribution, stating it was a goodwill gesture to appreciate the community's welcome and insisted that the administration is focused on welfare and security concerns.

He clarified that the visit was primarily to inspect government-owned industrial facilities, including the Igumale Cement Factory and Benue Burnt Bricks, as part of efforts to revive dormant industries and create job opportunities.
