Oyo ADC Candidate Taofeek Adegoke Criticized for Corn Gesture

Taofeek Adegoke, the governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Oyo State, has come under public scrutiny following the emergence of a video showing him distributing boiled corn to supporters. The video, which circulated widely on social media, depicted Adegoke standing beside a pot of boiled corn, personally handing portions to supporters gathered around him.

Many supporters referred to him as “Mr Governor” while chanting slogans in favor of his governorship bid. The incident sparked mixed reactions online; some viewed it as a sign of humility and accessibility, while others questioned whether such public displays were genuine engagement or mere campaign symbolism.

The video has continued to attract attention in Oyo State and beyond, although Adegoke has not yet commented on it. This incident is part of a broader trend where politicians engage in simple roadside interactions to connect with voters ahead of elections.

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, previously criticized such symbolic displays, asserting that electoral success should be based on performance rather than staged gestures.
