APC Governors Oppose Alliances Threatening Tinubu's Bid

On September 15, 2023, governors elected under the All Progressives Congress (APC) convened a closed-door meeting of the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) at the Imo State Governors’ Lodge in Abuja. They unanimously resolved to oppose any political alliances that could weaken the APC or undermine President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid for the 2027 general elections.

This declaration comes amid increasing political realignments, particularly concerning the activities of Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, and the formation of the National Rainbow Coalition, which aims to rally support for Tinubu’s presidential ambition. Although Wike was not specifically mentioned in the resolution, the timing of the governors' statement has drawn attention to his political maneuvers.

Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, who chairs the PGF, communicated the resolution, emphasizing the governors' commitment to safeguarding the interests of the APC and aligning the party's campaign structure with Tinubu’s re-election objectives.
