APM mobilizes cross-party backing for Makinde's 2027 presidential bid

The Allied Peoples Movement says it is building opposition alliances to position Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde as an alternative to President Tinubu in 2027.
The Allied Peoples Movement has launched a strategy to secure support from multiple opposition parties for its presidential candidate, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, in the 2027 general elections. According to party officials, the effort aims to unite opposition figures against the incumbent administration and present voters with an alternative leadership option.
The APM's National Publicity Secretary, Abubakar Yusuf, stated in Abuja that the party's outreach to other opposition groups is producing tangible results. He highlighted that Makinde's performance as governor and his standing among Nigerians seeking new governance approaches form the foundation of this campaign strategy.
The party has already secured backing from the Ekiti State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, with both groups maintaining their separate political identities while coordinating on the presidential front. Party officials characterize Makinde as a unifying figure capable of rallying Nigerians dissatisfied with current national leadership.
The APM describes its emerging alliance network as the fastest-growing opposition coalition, designed to mount a credible challenge to the ruling All Progressives Congress in the forthcoming election cycle. The cross-party negotiations remain ongoing, with the APM positioning itself as a platform through which various opposition elements can consolidate their forces.
The party's strategy departs from traditional single-party presidential campaigns by explicitly seeking collaborative arrangements with other opposition organizations while preserving each party's institutional independence.
