APM Demands Resignation of Edo Governor Over Fuel Price Remarks

The Allied Peoples Movement (APM) has called for the resignation of Edo State Governor Senator Monday Okpebholo due to his comments comparing Nigeria's petrol price, which exceeds N1,500 per litre, to an average of about N3,000 per litre in the United Kingdom. In a statement signed by National Publicity Secretary Abubakar Yusuf, the APM condemned the governor's remarks as callous, arguing that they ignore the significant differences in income levels and purchasing power between Nigerians and British citizens.

The party emphasized that while average Nigerian workers earn considerably less, UK workers have higher incomes, making such comparisons misleading. The APM also pointed out the disparities in public transportation systems between the two countries and highlighted that Nigeria, as an oil-producing nation, should have lower petrol prices, citing Libya and Iran as examples.

The party warned that Okpebholo's comments could incite public discontent and protests, and expressed concern over potential future petrol price increases. The APM urged support for its presidential candidate, Engr. Seyi Makinde, in the upcoming 2027 general election.
