APM Demands Resignation of Edo Governor Over Fuel Price Comparison

The Allied Peoples Movement (APM) has condemned Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo for his comparison of petrol prices in Nigeria and the United Kingdom, demanding his resignation. In a statement signed by National Publicity Secretary Abubakar Yusuf, the APM criticized the current pump price exceeding N1,500 per litre, which they argue exacerbates the hardships faced by Nigerians.

Okpebholo made his comments during the “Operation Rescue Benin-Asaba Road” event on September 24, suggesting that Nigeria was performing well despite the high fuel prices. The APM described this comparison as inappropriate, emphasizing the significant income disparity between Nigerian and British workers.

They noted that while the average monthly wage in the UK is over £2,636 (approximately N4.6 million), the minimum wage in Nigeria is only N70,000. The APM also highlighted the differences in public transport systems and stated that petrol prices in other oil-producing countries are significantly lower.
