NRS Chairman Denies $279 Million Fund Transfer Allegations

Muhammad Alhaji Yakubu, Convener of the Arewa Think Tank, defended NRS Chairman Adedeji against allegations of a $279 million transfer from the Frontier Exploration Fund's account to unnamed accounts. Adedeji denied the claims, labeling them as false and an attempt to damage his reputation and that of the NRS.

Yakubu described the allegations as part of a broader pattern of politically motivated attacks on officials involved in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration reforms. He emphasized the importance of distinguishing between legitimate scrutiny and politically motivated allegations.

The Frontier Exploration Fund, established under Section 9 of the Petroleum Industry Act, 2021, is intended to finance petroleum exploration in underdeveloped basins. Yakubu urged for reliance on verified information and called for responsible journalism, stating that unverified allegations could harm Nigeria's interests.
