Governor Lawal Advocates for State Police to Combat Insecurity

Mr. Dauda Lawal, the Governor of Zamfara State, asserted that the establishment of state police would greatly contribute to resolving the ongoing insecurity issues in Nigeria.

Speaking as a panelist at the Arise News Townhall, Lawal highlighted the persistent insecurity in the country and the inadequacies of the current security structures. He noted that state governors are responsible for the security of lives and property within their jurisdictions but lack the necessary command and control over security forces.

Lawal dismissed claims of abuse by state executives, stating that almost all states have federal security apparatus in place, yet none effectively address security challenges. He urged lawmakers to implement measures that would prevent the abuse of power by security outfits, emphasizing the importance of equipping personnel to tackle crime effectively.
