Army Arrests Suspected Boko Haram Fighter in Yobe

On August 4, 2026, troops arrested Musa Abdulhamid, a 26-year-old suspected Boko Haram fighter, while he was allegedly attempting to infiltrate the Nigerian Army Special Forces School in Buni Yadi, Gujba Local Government Area, Yobe State. The arrest follows an attack on the military facility on May 8, 2026.

Security expert Zagazola Makama reported that during preliminary interrogation, Abdulhamid confessed to participating in the attack and identified three Boko Haram commanders—Mohammed, Mustapha, and Ismail—who led the operation. He revealed that the attack had been planned for an extended period, with fighters hiding in nearby bushes before launching the assault.

Abdulhamid disclosed that the group lost over 10 members during the operation, as many attackers did not return to their camps. He noted that commanders typically concealed casualty figures and briefed fighters only shortly before operations.

The suspect remains in custody for further investigation and profiling, which is expected to yield additional intelligence on Boko Haram's operational methods in the North-East.
