Army Arrests Five Kidnappers in Yobe, Recovers Weapons

On July 23, 2026, military troops from Sector 2, Operation HADIN KAI, in collaboration with the Yobe State Hunters Group, arrested five suspected kidnappers in Jegalari Village, Fune Local Government Area of Yobe State. This intelligence-led operation was executed by the 233 Battalion, which is deployed at Damaturu Military Cantonment, following credible intelligence regarding criminal activities in the area.

During the operation, the troops recovered three locally fabricated AK-47 rifles, one locally made pistol, assorted ammunition, and four mobile phones believed to be linked to the suspects' criminal activities. Captain Mohammed Goni, the Acting Military Information Officer at Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI, confirmed that the suspects are currently in military custody for further investigation to determine their involvement in kidnapping and related crimes.

The military reiterated its commitment to denying criminal groups freedom of action in the North-East and urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities.
