Nigerian Army Expands Divisions, Appoints New GOCs

The Nigerian Army has announced the deployment of General Officers Commanding (GOCs) to newly approved divisions as part of an effort to strengthen its force structure and expand operational capabilities. This follows President Bola Tinubu's decision to increase the number of divisions from 8 to 12.

Colonel Appolonia Anele, the Army's spokesperson, stated that the newly established divisions will begin operations immediately. The 5 Division will be headquartered in Makurdi, overseeing Benue, Nasarawa, and Kogi States.

Other divisions include 1 Division in Kaduna, 2 Division in Ibadan, 3 Division in Jos, 9 Division in Ilorin, and 10 Division in Jalingo, among others. The 83 Division, based in Benin City, will cover Edo, Delta, and Bayelsa States when activated later this year.

To lead these divisions, seasoned officers have been appointed, including Major General Yakubu Yahaya to 9 Division, Major General Chinedu Ralph Nnebeife to 10 Division, and Major General Moses Gara to 5 Division.
