Irabor Supports Tinubu's Army Expansion to 12 Divisions

Former Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Lucky Irabor (retd.), endorsed President Bola Tinubu's initiative to expand the Nigerian Army from eight to 12 divisions during an interview on Arise Television’s Morning Show. He stated that this expansion is a positive step but requires substantial investment in personnel, equipment, and logistics.

Following President Tinubu's approval, the Nigerian Army announced the appointment of four new General Officers Commanding for the new divisions: 5 Division in Makurdi, 9 Division in Ilorin, 10 Division in Jalingo, and 83 Division in Benin City, with the latter becoming operational later in the year. Irabor noted that while the creation of new divisions is commendable, it must be supported by adequate resources and a review of the military’s role in internal security.

He also praised the plan to recruit 28,000 additional soldiers, calling it a good starting point for further military enhancement.
