Army Detains Brigadier General Over Alleged Links

Brigadier General Archibong has been detained by the Nigerian Army due to alleged connections with retired Major General Ali Keffi. This detention occurred in the first week of January 2026, alongside three other military personnel and a civilian.

Archibong, who currently serves as the Chief of Staff at the Training and Doctrine Command of the Nigerian Army in Minna, Niger State, has had a career that began at the Nigerian Defence Academy in 1994. He has participated in various military operations, including peacekeeping missions.

Concerns have been raised regarding the potential impact of his prolonged detention on his career, especially as no wrongdoing has been established against him. Meanwhile, Ali Keffi is challenging his arrest and detention in the National Industrial Court, seeking 100 billion naira in compensatory damages and an additional 100 billion naira in punitive damages, alleging unlawful detention and torture during his time as head of operations in the military.
