Nigerian Army Investigates Student Assault at Lagos School

The Nigerian Army is conducting an investigation into an incident involving a female SS3 student at a command secondary school in Ipaja, Lagos, after a video surfaced on social media showing visible red marks on the student's body, which sparked public outrage. The incident reportedly occurred on February 26, 2026, during a routine classroom inspection by a field officer.

The officer confiscated improper footwear from three students, leading to allegations of corporal punishment. Lieutenant Colonel Musa Yahaya, the deputy director of Army Public Relations for the 81 Division, stated that preliminary findings indicate the students had made caricatures of the inspecting officer.

The Army has emphasized the welfare, safety, and dignity of students as a priority and assured parents and the public that the outcome of the investigation will guide further administrative actions to prevent similar incidents. The Army has urged the public to remain calm while the investigation is ongoing.
