Army Recovers N350m Terror Funds, 500 Weapons in Northeast

Maj Gen Abubakar Abdulsalam, the outgoing Theatre Commander of the Northeast Joint Taskforce, Operation Hadin Kai, announced the recovery of over N350 million from terrorist financiers since he took command on April 28, 2022. During a press briefing in Maiduguri, Borno State, he outlined his mandate to restore normalcy in the northeast, which included reopening markets, schools, and resettling displaced families.

Abdulsalam reported that over 7,000 displaced families have returned to their communities, and 300 explosive devices were safely detonated. He highlighted the capture of 758 logistics collaborators and the neutralization of over 1,200 terrorists, including 216 key leaders.

Additionally, he noted the repatriation of over 3,000 people from Cameroon and the reopening of the National Youth Service Corps camp in Maiduguri after 13 years. Abdulsalam expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu and military leadership for their support during his tenure.
