Alex Manninger, a former goalkeeper for Arsenal, tragically passed away at the age of 48 after a car accident in Salzburg, Austria, where his vehicle was struck by a train. The incident occurred when Manninger was crossing the tracks, as reported by the Austrian news agency APA.

Following his death, Red Bull Salzburg, his former club, expressed their condolences on Facebook, mourning the loss of a special person in the world of football. The Austrian Football Association and Arsenal also conveyed their sorrow over Manninger's passing.

He made 64 appearances for Arsenal between 1997 and 2002, winning the Premier League and FA Cup during his tenure. Manninger also represented Austria 33 times, including participation in the UEFA Euro 2008 held in Austria and Switzerland.
