Minister Orders Dismissal of Students Involved in Kidnapping

Dr. Tunji Alausa, the Minister of Education, has directed vice-chancellors, rectors, and provosts of tertiary institutions in Nigeria to dismiss any student found guilty of involvement in kidnapping or related crimes after thorough investigations.

This directive was issued during a meeting with Dr. (Mrs) Adebimpe Adebajo, Pro-Chancellor of the Federal University of Lafia, and other governing council members. Alausa highlighted the importance of strengthening internal intelligence systems and collaborating with the Department of State Services (DSS) and other security agencies to ensure student safety both on and off campuses.

He noted that while Nigerian educational institutions are largely secure, recent incidents necessitate enhanced intelligence gathering. Alausa also mentioned a meeting with Gen.

Christopher Musa (rtd) to develop a strategy for the Safe Schools Initiative. Furthermore, he announced that the Federal Government would support security enhancement projects in tertiary institutions through TETFund’s 2027 intervention programme, urging institutions to submit requests for security improvements.
