ASUU Launches Indefinite Strike in Lagos State Universities

On Tuesday, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), representing the Government-owned Universities Joint Campus Group, announced an indefinite strike impacting Lagos State University (LASU), Lagos State University of Education (LASUED), and Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH). The strike commenced immediately after the Lagos State Government failed to respond to a 14-day ultimatum that expired on August 31, 2026.

ASUU also noted that a final warning issued on September 10 was ignored, and the September 13 deadline passed without any dialogue. The union's primary demand is the full domestication and implementation of the December 2025 ASUU-Federal Agreement, which includes the payment of the Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance and other welfare provisions for both serving and retired academic staff.

ASUU's declaration was signed by Olusegun Babalola, Grace Abimbola, and Murisiku Onigemo. The strike will continue until the government engages in meaningful dialogue and addresses the union's demands.

ASUU called for support from traditional rulers, religious leaders, and civil society groups.
