ASUU President Criticizes Government's Neglect of Education in Nigeria

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) President, Prof. Chris Piwuna, criticized the Nigerian government's indifference towards education, accusing political leaders of prioritizing self-interest over national development.

Piwuna expressed concerns during a virtual engagement, emphasizing the government's failure to address key educational issues. He lamented the lack of basic internet connectivity for university teachers, hindering research and international collaboration.

Piwuna also criticized the mismanagement of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) and highlighted the government's proposal to establish 18 new universities without proper groundwork. ASUU has been negotiating for fair agreements for 15 years, aiming to secure the future of Nigerian youth.
