Nigerian Education Minister Criticizes ASUU Strike Despite Meeting Demands

The Nigerian Education Minister, Dr. Tunji Alausa, criticized the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) for embarking on a two-week indefinite strike despite the government meeting their demands.

Alausa expressed disappointment at ASUU's decision, citing ongoing negotiations and the government's proactive engagement over the past two years. He revealed that ASUU had already been paid 50 billion Naira in earned academic allowances and that an additional 150 billion Naira had been approved to address outstanding needs.

The Minister emphasized that the strike was unjustified given the government's commitment to resolving issues in the education sector.
