ASUU Declares Indefinite Strike at Lagos State Universities

On September 15, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) announced an indefinite strike affecting three universities owned by the Lagos State Government: Lagos State University (LASU), Lagos State University of Education (LASUED), and Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH). This decision was made after separate branch congresses where members resolved to withdraw their services due to the government's failure to implement the 2025 Federal Government-ASUU agreement.

The strike took effect immediately following the expiration of a 14-day ultimatum issued on August 31, 2026, which demanded action on the agreement. ASUU stated that the ultimatum expired without a satisfactory response from the government.

A final warning was issued on September 10, but the September 13 deadline also passed without resolution, prompting the union to commence the strike. ASUU emphasized that the government's continued silence and inaction could no longer be tolerated.
