SPAN Celebrates Graduation of Talented Young Dancers

On July 14, the Society for Performance Arts of Nigeria (SPAN) held a graduation ceremony for its SPAN On The Road (SOTR) programme, themed “Beyond Boundaries,” at SPAN Space in Bourdillon, Ikoyi. This event marked the culmination of a six-month dance training initiative aimed at nurturing talented children from underserved communities, in partnership with the Ford Foundation.

The performances featured students who had little or no formal dance training, showcasing styles such as salsa, jazz, urban fusion, hip-hop, and Nigerian street dance. Remi Jemitola, SPAN’s Chief Operating Officer, expressed gratitude for the support from the Ford Foundation, which enabled SPAN to expand its reach to Maiduguri and other areas.

A documentary highlighting SPAN’s activities was screened, and an award was presented to the Ford Foundation in appreciation. Dr.

ChiChi Aniagolu, Regional Director of the Ford Foundation Office of West Africa, emphasized the importance of investing in Nigeria’s creative industry.
