Schlueter Boosts Nigeria's Athletics with Allegiance Switch

Germany-born athlete Schlueter has embraced his Nigerian heritage and switched allegiance from Great Britain to Nigeria, significantly boosting the country's multi-events program. He is currently competing in the US Combined Event Championship in Indianapolis, where he accumulated 3,273 points in the men's heptathlon, achieving a personal best of 7.39m in long jump.

Schlueter aims to surpass the national record of 8,048 points set by Ituah Enahoro in June 2018. He became eligible to represent Nigeria after November 13, 2025, following a rule change.

Schlueter has already set a personal best of 5,780 points in heptathlon and improved his record to 5,789 points at the Texas M. Charli Thoma Invitational.

His arrival comes amid concerns over athlete exodus, with notable figures like the 200m national record holder switching to other countries. Schlueter's commitment is seen as a potential revitalization for Nigeria's multi-events in athletics.
