Chukwuemeka Switches Allegiance to Austria After FIFA Approval

Carnei Chukwuemeka, a 22-year-old midfielder currently playing for Borussia Dortmund, has officially switched his international football allegiance from England to Austria following FIFA's approval. Born in Vienna to Nigerian parents and raised in England, Chukwuemeka developed through England's youth system, representing the country at under-17 to under-20 levels and being called up to the under-21 squad in 2023, although injuries prevented him from featuring.

His switch means he is no longer eligible to play for Nigeria's Super Eagles. Chukwuemeka is expected to make his senior debut for Austria later this month under the management of Ralf Rangnick, who has scheduled friendly matches against Ghana on March 27 and South Korea on March 31.

This decision comes amid a new chapter in Chukwuemeka's club career, following a successful loan spell and a move to Borussia Dortmund after struggling for regular minutes at Chelsea, where he scored five goals in 30 appearances across competitions.
