Atiku Abubakar Demands Transparency on Nigeria-US Health Deal

Atiku Abubakar, the former Vice President and ADC presidential candidate, has called for the immediate publication of Nigeria's health agreement with the United States. This demand follows Ghana's rejection of a similar compact due to concerns regarding medical records, pathogen information, funding obligations, and inspection of imported medicines.

Atiku stated that Nigerians deserve to know whether the provisions rejected by Ghana are included in the agreement signed by President Bola Tinubu on 19 December 2025. The five-year health Memorandum of Understanding involves nearly $2 billion in U.S. grants and Nigeria's commitment to mobilize nearly $3 billion for health spending.

Atiku criticized the government's failure to release funds for health projects, citing that only ₦36 million had been disbursed from the ₦218 billion budgeted for the Ministry of Health in 2025. He urged the government to publish the complete agreement and address concerns about data sharing and patient safeguards.
