Atiku Demands Full Account of NNPC's ₦11.2 Trillion Receivables

Atiku Abubakar, who represents the African Democratic Congress in the 2027 presidential race, has issued a public call for full transparency from President Bola Tinubu's government concerning ₦11.2 trillion that the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited says the Federation owes it. Through Phrank Shaibu, Director of Strategic Communication for the ADC Presidential Campaign Council, this demand was released on October 4, seeking comprehensive records detailing how the sum has been utilized and distributed.

The ex-Vice President has explicitly requested disclosure of every contract, payment document, competitive bidding record, and deliverable tied to these receivables. A notable share of this money covers NNPCL expenses for safeguarding Nigeria's petroleum and gas infrastructure, though the precise allocation has not been disclosed.

Atiku has emphasized that Nigerians must learn exactly what portion of the ₦11.2 trillion supported pipeline security initiatives and identify which firms undertook such operations. Beyond inquiries into NNPC expenditures, Atiku's announcement additionally asked the President to reveal both who is financing his re-election efforts and the total amounts involved.

This combined inquiry connects scrutiny of petroleum corporation finances with wider examination of state spending and campaign resource sources under the incumbent regime. According to NNPCL's 2025 financial records, the ₦11.2 trillion appears as receivables—funds the corporation maintains are owed by the Federation due to advances and related expenses.

The ADC's demand for openness stands among the most thorough public examinations of NNPC's operations following recent organizational restructuring and changes during this administration.
