Atiku Abubakar Demands Freedom for Arrested Protesters

Atiku Abubakar, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate and former Vice President, has called for the immediate release of five Nigerians arrested in Borno State for wearing T-shirts that read "Tinubu Must Go." The Nigeria Police Force charged the men—Baba Aji Gremami, 44; Mustapha Abba Yemen, 28; Abbacha Mohammed Ali, 32; Adam Umar Gubio, 21; and Abdulhamid Mohammed, 21—claiming they intended to cause a breach of public peace in Maiduguri. In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku criticized President Bola Tinubu for his current policies, contrasting them with his past protests against fuel prices under former President Goodluck Jonathan.

He argued that the slogan "Tinubu Must Go" represents a demand for political change rather than a crime, urging authorities to disclose the detainees' locations and grant them access to their families and lawyers. Atiku emphasized that citizens should be free to express their grievances without fear of arrest.
