Borno Police Arrest Five for Wearing 'Tinubu Must Go' Shirts

On September 30, 2026, Nahum Kenneth Daso, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Borno State Police Command, clarified the arrest of five young men wearing T-shirts that read "Tinubu Must Go." The police stated that the arrests were not politically motivated but were due to alleged drug possession and conduct likely to cause a public disturbance. The arrests took place on September 25, 2026, around 6:00 p.m. near the West-end roundabout in Maiduguri.

The suspects, identified as Baba Aji Gremami, Mustapha Abba Yemen, Abacha Mohammed Ali, Adam Umar Gubio, and Abdulhamid Mohammed, were found with 15 wraps of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, 100 tablets suspected to be D5, a shisha pot, a pair of scissors, and the aforementioned T-shirts. They were charged with criminal conspiracy, inciting disturbance, disturbance of public peace, and thuggery under various sections of the Borno State Penal Code.

A bail application has been filed, with the court set to rule on October 6, 2026, and the substantive trial scheduled for October 26, 2026.
