Atiku Abubakar Critiques Obasanjo's Electoral Value

Atiku Abubakar, the former Vice President of Nigeria, asserted that former President Olusegun Obasanjo lacks the electoral strength attributed to him, claiming that Arewa made him president in 1999. Atiku's remarks came in response to Obasanjo's recent criticisms, where he labeled his choice of Atiku as his running mate in 1999 as his biggest mistake.

Atiku emphasized that Obasanjo has never shown the capacity to influence presidential elections, citing that he could not win his own state or the Southwest in 1999. The tension between the two escalated over Obasanjo's controversial third term ambition, which Atiku opposed, leading to allegations of corruption against him.

Despite their past disputes, including Atiku's departure from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to contest the 2007 election with the Action Congress, they reconciled ahead of the 2019 election. However, Obasanjo later endorsed Peter Obi for the 2023 election, while Atiku lost to Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Atiku is now seeking the presidency for the 2027 election under the ADC.
