Atiku Abubakar Critiques Tinubu on Fuel Prices

Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the former Vice President and presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), responded to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's recent remarks regarding economic policies. In a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku accused Tinubu of providing “political anaesthesia” ahead of the 2027 elections, emphasizing that the real issue is the inability of Nigerians to afford basic living costs.

Shaibu pointed out that Tinubu's criticism of Atiku's economic proposals contradicted the government's policies, particularly regarding energy costs. He cited Nigeria's petrol price of ₦1,400 per litre as unsustainable compared to other oil-producing countries, such as Saudi Arabia (₦778), Kuwait (₦872), and Libya (₦34).

Atiku's Economic Recovery Plan proposes targeted support for Nigerian crude supplied to domestic refineries to lower pump prices, highlighting the financial strain on workers who spend a significant portion of their wages on fuel.
