Wike Endorses Chinda for Rivers Governorship in 2027

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, endorsed Kingsley Chinda, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, as the next governor of Rivers State during a reception organized by Ogbakor Ikwerre on Tuesday. Wike, a former governor of Rivers State, declared that Chinda, who is a serving member of the House of Representatives and a long-time political ally, would succeed the current governor, Siminalayi Fubara, in the 2027 elections.

Chinda emerged as the APC governorship candidate following the primary election held in May 2026. Wike's endorsement strengthens the perception of his influence in Rivers politics.

Additionally, Major Jack was announced as the APC deputy governorship candidate, a decision aimed at achieving geographical balance and enhancing grassroots support, particularly in riverine areas. Jack had defected to the APC in December 2025, alongside other lawmakers, including the Speaker of the House, Martin Amaewhule.
