Atiku's Camp Demands Probe into Oriire Kidnap Incident

Atiku Abubakar's camp, represented by his media aide Paul Ib, has urged for an independent investigation into the kidnapping incident in Oriire, Oyo State, after a freed teacher, Olatund Zacchaeus, claimed that he was released by his captors rather than rescued by security forces. This assertion contradicts the federal government's earlier position, which stated that Nigerian security forces rescued the victims after 56 days in captivity.

The incident, which occurred on May 15, involved heavily armed gunmen abducting 39 pupils and six teachers, with one teacher killed during the attack. Governor Seyi Makinde has echoed the call for an independent investigation, emphasizing the need for transparency and accountability in the matter.

The governor disclosed that the freed teacher required urgent medical attention after his ordeal. The situation has raised serious concerns regarding state-sponsored ransom payments to terrorists and the overall security situation in the region.
