Qua’an-Pan LG Bans Unauthorized Herders' Settlements

The Qua’an-Pan Local Government Council in Plateau State has implemented a ban on unauthorized herders settling in the area and grazing cattle on cultivated farmlands. This directive was announced by the Executive Chairman, Hon.

Dr. Christopher Audu Manship, during a stakeholders' meeting with traditional rulers and leaders of Miyetti Allah on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at the Felix Dakyap Guest House in Doemak.

The council aims to prevent criminal elements from infiltrating the area under the guise of pastoral migration and to maintain the peace currently enjoyed by residents. Manship emphasized that herders migrating from other states or local government areas must do so with the knowledge and consent of the host communities, particularly the indigenous people and Miyetti Allah leadership.

He warned that any herder found grazing on cultivated farmlands would face legal consequences and urged pastoralists to limit their activities to designated grazing reserves and fallow lands. His Royal Highness Nda Miskagam Leklat, Chairman of the Qua’an-Pan Local Government Traditional Council of Chiefs, commended Manship for this proactive measure.
