Anambra First Lady Addresses Domestic Worker Abuse

Dr. (Mrs) Nonye Soludo, the First Lady of Anambra State, called on women to utilize the 2026 Annual August Meetings to tackle the increasing incidents of violence, maltreatment, and neglect of domestic workers. She emphasized that discussions should shift from traditional community development topics to addressing the social and moral crisis affecting vulnerable children, particularly minors employed as housemaids.

Dr. Soludo highlighted alarming reports of physical assault, starvation, and emotional abuse, urging women leaders and community stakeholders to incorporate child protection and the rights of domestic workers into their deliberations. She stressed the importance of early intervention and support for victims, warning that normalizing violence in homes could lead to future generations accepting cruelty.

The First Lady encouraged instilling empathy and respect for human dignity in families, asserting these values are essential for a peaceful society.
