Babies Matter Medical Centre Wins UK Awards for Neonatal Care

Babies Matter Medical Centre (BMMC) in Lagos has been honored with two international awards from Luxlife for excellence in neonatal care. The centre won the Best Advanced Neonatal Care Centre 2026 and the Preterm Infant Medicine Excellence Award 2026, marking a significant milestone in its role as a referral center for the treatment of premature and critically ill newborns in Nigeria.

Co-founder Dr. Zainab Mudasiru described the recognition as validation of the critical role of specialist interventions in improving the survival rates of vulnerable newborns.

She shared a success story involving twins born at just 25 weeks gestation, who received dedicated care during their 78-day stay in the neonatal intensive care unit before being transferred to the UK for further medical support. Dr.

Mudasiru called for obstetricians and maternity hospitals to strengthen referral systems for high-risk pregnancies to enhance access to specialist neonatal care, which is crucial for improving long-term health outcomes for premature infants.
