Nigeria Launches Securing Forest Future Country Package

The Honourable Minister of Environment, Balarabe Abbas Lawal, launched the Securing Nigeria’s Forest Future Country Package (SNFF) in Abuja. This policy document focuses on managing forests, restoring degraded land, protecting biodiversity, and mobilizing investments to enhance climate resilience.

Balarabe emphasized that the initiative requires collaboration across multiple sectors, including agriculture, finance, and planning, and must engage State Governments and communities. He urged Ministerial Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to treat the SNFF as a cross-cutting economic and climate priority.

The Minister acknowledged the support from the Forest and Climate Leaders’ Partnership, Conservation International, and the Seed Fund. Dr. Kann Jansen, Head of Cooperation at the German Embassy in Abuja, commended the collaboration among various stakeholders and stressed the importance of forests for climate resilience and livelihoods.

He encouraged stakeholders to view the launch as the beginning of a new phase of implementation and partnership.
