FG Launches Agroforestry Campaign in Kwara State

The federal government of Nigeria, via the National Agricultural Land Development Authority (NALDA), has initiated a Youth Agroforestry and Climate Action Campaign in Kwara State. This campaign follows the completion of its first phase, which involved the planting of approximately 5,000 economic trees across four locations.

The initiative, part of NALDA’s Green Hope Project, began in Odogbolu, Ogun State, and extended to the University of Abuja and Barkin Ladi in Plateau State, culminating in Oke-Onigbin, Isin Local Government Area of Kwara State. Salman Ibrahim, Special Assistant on Projects to the NALDA Executive Secretary, announced that the government has approved the planting of an additional 56,000 economic trees across 34 Open-Field Horticulture Clusters nationwide.

The next phase aims to involve over 2,000 youths in planting exercises and climate advocacy. NALDA currently manages 38 clusters covering over 500 hectares, integrating economic trees such as mango, avocado, coconut, and fig into agricultural practices to enhance food production and income for farmers.
